Bike Riding in David, Panama near Plaza El Terronal

One day we hopped in the car at after lunch and took off to the tennis club we belong to. Nice place, cheap ($5 a month per person) but only one court. So it’s a crap-shoot whether the court will be in use after a 15 minute drive one way. No car parked in front, looks good- darn- two guys playing and not at all sweaty. Gonna be there a while and we didn’t bring anything to do while waiting. “Hey, want to ride the bikes?”, asks Kris. “Yes”. Back home we go.M1990006 M1880015 M2110044 M2110073 M2120035 M2120036 M2120038 M2120042 M2120048 M2120052

We have two 26″ mountain bikes, Chinese made Rali Selva 21 speed bikes we picked up this month at the local bike shop. Not bad quality and cost $400 each with helmet and lights, etc. Motorcycles seemed like fun when we were in the Florida but after getting here buying the bikes seemed safer, healthier and much cheaper. “Dos bicicletas, por favor”.

We happen to live near a desirable part of town north of the Terronal Mall, which seems to be THE mall to go. We were impressed by the quality of merchandise and the displays and size of some of the stores, nothing 3rd world about them. I’ll write more about the mall experience later but now, back to my biking story. We like to ride there because the roads are nice, the dogs are fenced, and many of the homes and yards are spectacular.

Putting on her helmet, Kris says,”Want to go down to the area with the nice houses?”. I knew what she meant and I DID want to go there, I LOVE the area for the reasons I mentioned and since it’s a couple of miles away it would be good exercise. Some where in the past I found a site where you could make your own bike routes called Walk Jog Run. I put the route we took in so you can see where we went. The pictures are from different trips, maybe you can see why we enjoy riding our bikes there. And to Ryan, we’re DOING it Now!

Later,

  1. So expensive for bikes ($400). Seems like you could buy a Moped for that price. Are there any cheaper Bikes in Panama?

    • Bikes range in price. Our bikes are higher and have more options. I don’t know if
mopeds are sold but $400 for anything powered sounds cheap.

    • I haven’t been there in a year but they were at Fertica, a fertiliser business on the right
side of the road after you pass PriceSmart. There is also a Tennis Club in town but I have no
      idea how to reach them.

  2. You stated, “One day we hopped in the car at after lunch and took off to the tennis club we belong to. Nice place, cheap ($5 a month per person) but only one court. …” Where is this club you belong to that you pay $5 a month and is it the ones you mentioned by Fertica or somewhere else???
